This is the first report of anorexia nervosa in a child from a Chinese immigrant family. Anorexia nervosa has been described as rare in China and in the Chinese Community of Hong Kong possibly because of protective biological and cultural factors which are specific to the Chinese. This case attempts to illustrate that such factors may be lost in Chinese families now living in the West and that also there are indications that anorexia nervosa may be under‐diagnosed in such families.
