Abstract The maximum conversion efficiency η max of black‐body radiation is found to be strongly dependent on the solid angle ω subtended by the source of radiation. It is proved that η max has an upper bound which depends on ω. This upper bound is more accurate than existing formulas, which do not depend on ω.
