Abstract The authors present an analytical expression for the thermal efficiency of evaporative heat loss for open and closed cycle systems in terms of system design and climatic parameters. The derived analytical expression can be used for optimum design of evaporative cooling (open cycle) and distillation system (closed cycle). The theoretical results have also been validated experimentally for open cycle system.
