In this paper the seismic response of a 30 storey framed tube is examined. A description is given of an analysis procedure utilizing a linear substructure to represent the building superstructure, achieving considerable economy in computational effort. Localized non‐linearity in the form of transient foundation uplift is included as a response feature. Comparisons of substructured to non‐substructured analyses for the same ground motion are made. Lastly, the effects of more generalized superstructure non‐linearity are examined by comparing the results of such an analysis to those described above.
