New approach for β‐cyclodextrin‐containing Co/MCM‐41 synthesis was demonstrated. FT‐IR spectroscopy and EDX‐SEM analysis were used to characterize the presence and amount of β‐cyclodextrin introduced onto the surface. The activity of the catalyst was tested for the esterification reaction of oleic acid. β‐Cyclodextrin‐containing Co/MCM‐41 was also evaluated in the production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil and a high yield of 95% was achieved. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 37: 1770–1773, 2018
