In this study, the statistical optimization of the leaching parameters of aluminum hydroxide extraction from bauxite waste (red mud) was investigated. The extraction parameters were solid‐to‐liquid ratio, base concentration, reaction temperature, leaching time, and stirring speed. Optimum experimental conditions were carried out by the Taguchi method. A higher dissolution rate was found to give better performance characteristics. The most important parameter was determined using the statistical analysis of variance. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 37: 196–202, 2018
