In recent years, many scholars had put forward a new idea in which the New Suspension Preheater Cement Production Technique (or NSP) would be used to decompose phosphogypsum to produce vitriol and cement. In this article, combining the characteristic of precalciner in NSP technique and the thermal analysis for phosphogypsum, the adaptability of decomposition temperature of phosphogypsum for the preheated calciner was researched, as well as the relationship between decomposition efficiency of phosphogypsum and the felt block characteristic of the kiln system. Results showed that even in reduction atmosphere, the decomposition temperature of phosphogypsum is still more than 1200°C, it is difficult to realize this new process with NSP cement production technique. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 2011
