Membranes can play the vital roles of electrodes, interlayers, separators, and electrolytes in the battery system. In this review, we highlight recent progress on tunable synthesis of various porous membranes for lithium rechargeable batteries, discuss how the membranes with hierarchically porous frameworks or ordered channels can improve ion/electrolyte transport and charge transfer, and offer prospects of their future development for advanced battery applications.
