The contaminant concentration values that are experienced by a fixed observer are represented by an expected‐mass‐fraction function. It is shown that the α‐β prescription of moments enable the expected‐mass‐fraction to be approximated. The release of a puff of contaminant in the neutral atmospheric boundary layer is used as an illustrative example.
