Towards pyrolysis oil commercialization : From the molecule to the megacity—with this slogan, TUMCREATE began its journey seven years ago. The company′s mission during its first five years was to explore how electric mobility could be successfully introduced in Singapore. Outcomes ranged from fundamental findings on new materials for batteries to a fully functional prototype of an electric taxi for tropical megacities with an in‐house designed battery pack that could be charged in 15 minutes for a range of minimum 200 kilometers. For its second five years, TUMCREATE shifted its focus to concepts for electric public transport in Singapore. In this Review, TUMCREATE′s findings are summarized on the impact of electric mobility on Singapore′s power system and what benefits electric vehicles could bring to this modern vibrant city state located close to the equator. More details can be found in the Review by Tobias Massier et al. on page 21 in Issue 1, 2018 ( 10.1002/ente.201700652).
