The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg, Germany is Europe's largest solar energy research institute and strives with a total staff of about 1300 (including students) to develop technologies in energy efficiency and renewable energy provision, distribution, and storage that are aimed at assisting in a renewable energy transformation on a regional, national, European, and global scale.
