The role of an admissions counselor is generally perceived as an entry‐level position in the organization. Data suggests that around half of the traveling staff is in either their first full‐time job in admissions or higher education in general. Even with this reality, it is wise for directors and (assistant) vice presidents to be in tune with their satisfaction in the role. Many of these entry‐level staff will leave their position for another similar one somewhere else, rather than taking a position further up in the hierarchy. These types of personnel moves are less efficient for the candidate, and very inefficient for the institution of initial employment.
