When University of Washington officials changed their admissions review process from an indexed one to a more holistic review in 2005, it changed the landscape of the institution. The admissions index, which until 2005 was mandated for use in Washington state, used a student's high school GPA through junior year and standardized test scores to provide applicants with an index number. Institutions would post the threshold at which they accepted applicants.
