In 2012, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‐day Saints made the announcement that male disciples of the Church should serve their two years on a religious mission of conversion at age 18, rather than the previous age of 21. In a state where 50 percent of all high school students are Mormon, the sudden loss of a huge population of potential incoming college students was a matter of major concern for most institutions.
