Issue no. 9 is a special issue on “Electro‐ and Liquid Phase‐separations” consisting of 19 contributions that cover a wide spectrum of topics in the field. It has 5 distinct parts: Part I is on proteomics and cancer biomarkers containing two review articles and one research paper; Part II is a collection of 6 contributions on various fundamental studies and methodologies including affinity CE, isotachophoresis, nanopore sensing, thermal marks as signal processing, moving reaction boundary and electromembrane extraction of heavy metals; Part III contains 3 articles on novel trends in CEC involving studies on segmented monolithic columns, mixed ligand monolithic columns and polydopamine open tubular CEC; Part IV has 5 contributions on bioanalysis by CE which tackle proteins, neutral carbohydrates, pheromone compounds, branched‐chain amino acids, PCR and forensic STR; Part V is on food analysis by CE with two contributions on the determination of phytic acid and inositolphosphates in barley and the analysis of phenolic acids and their radical scavenging activity in wheat extracts. Featured articles include: Combinatorial peptide ligand libraries: The conquest of the ‘hidden proteome’ advances at great strides ( 10.1002/elps.201000589 ) Cancer biomarker discovery: Opportunities and pitfalls in analytical methods ( 10.1002/elps.201000588 ) Affinity capillary electrophoresis and density functional theory employed for the characterization of hexaarylbenzene‐based receptor complexation with alkali metal ions ( 10.1002/elps.201000568 ) A method to determine quasi‐steady state in constant voltage mode isotachophoresis ( 10.1002/elps.201000594 ) Direct numerical simulation of electrokinetic translocation of a cylindrical particle through a nanopore using a Poisson‐Boltzmann approach ( 10.1002/elps.201000503 ) Equivalence‐point electromigration acid‐base titration via moving neutralization boundary electrophoresis ( 10.1002/elps.201000415 ) Controlling retention, selectivity and magnitude of EOF by segmented monolithic columns consisting of octadecyl and naphthyl monolithic segments – Applications to RP‐CEC of both neutral and charged solutes ( 10.1002/elps.201000563 ) Mixed ligand monolithic columns for reversed‐phase capillary electrochromatography via hydrophobic and interactions ( 10.1002/elps.201000632 )
