Issue no. 1 is the yearly special issue on “CE and CEC Reviews”, which is considered as the “central review bank” on the various aspects of fundamentals, methodologies and applications of electrophoresis that is readily essential to the scientific community in the life sciences. As such, it facilitates the dissemination of the science of electrophoresis to a large number of audience. This issue has 14 critical reviews distributed over 6 distinct parts. Part I is on glycoproteomics analysis by MS, and has two related reviews on theoretical considerations and on capillary and microfluidics workflows. Part II is concerned with detection issues related to (i) capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (CE‐C 4 D) for microseparation techniques (e.g. CE and microchip electrophoresis) and (ii) to aspects of CE‐MS instrumentation and its application in metabolomics and intact proteins analyses. A comprehensive review of CITP makes the subject of Part III while two other review articles on novel monolithic stationary phases constitute the topics of Part IV. Stacking, trace analysis, extraction, preconcentration, sweeping and focusing are treated in two review articles in Part V as means for sensitivity enhancement in electrophoresis and electrochromatography. Finally, Part VI has 3 review articles on the methodologies and applications of two related microseparation techniques: MEKC and MEEKC.
