Photoirradiation of globin, obtained from human hemoglobin, in the presence of oxygen and protoporphyrin produced a series of polymers of globin subunits ranging from dimer to dodecamer. These polymers are useful as molecular weight markers because they cover a relatively wide range of molecular weights ( M r 15 500–186 000) with a constant and narrow interval of M r 15 500.
