A new method is described for staining proteins after high resolution two‐dimensional gel electrophoresis. The polyacrylamide gel matrix is stained blue, by photoreduction of Nitro Blue Tetrazolium, while the spots of polypeptides remain unstained. The method is much more sensitive than Coomassie Blue staining and its sensitivity is close to that obtained by silver staining.
