Phytohemagglutinin (PHA)‐the lectin extracted from Phaseolus vulgaris ‐is found to induce electrophoretic mobility changes of purple membrane particles. The effect is dose‐dependent. The ionic strength of the suspending medium modifies the reduction of the membrane surface charge density.
