A cathodic stripping voltammetric method for determination of As(III) using Hg electrode in water samples containing high concentrations of surfactants is described. The linear calibration plot for As(III) was achieved in the simultaneous presence of 1 mg L −1 anionic, 2 mg L −1 cationic and 2 mg L −1 nonionic surfactants for an accumulation time of 30 s in the range 1×10 −8 to 1×10 −5 mol L −1 , the detection limit for accumulation time of 3 hours was about 2.6×10 −9 mol L −1 . The developed method was successfully applied to As(III) determination in five natural water samples with satisfactory results.
