The partitioning of anions into different highly lipophilic media such as plasticizers used in the construction of ISEs was studied. Using both potentiometry and conductometry, precise partitioning values of a series of common potassium salts were obtained. The partitioning of the anions was shown to be significant and was dependent on the organic media used. These results stress the importance of the materials used in the construction of the anion selective electrodes since they gave anion partitioning sequences linked to the plasticizer, which differ from the common Hofmeister selectivity pattern. At the same time the partitioning values obtained can be used for the experimental estimation of the mobilities of anions in organic media.
