Ion‐selective electrodes (ISEs) were developed by impregnating plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) membranes with a complex of triisobutylphosphine sulfide and Hg 2+ . The electrodes were selective for halides and thiocyanate, iodide being the preferred anion. The overall selectivity pattern of the electrodes was I − > SCN − ≈ Br − > Cl − > No 2 −≈ ClO 4 −> No 3 −≈ SO 4 2− . The electrodes were evaluated in both batch and flow‐injection modes.
