A conducting polymer film has been formed on a Pt‐wire mesh by electrochemical oxidation of tryptophan from acidic and alkaline solutions. The electrochemical characteristics of the film have been studied both by cyclic voltammetry and impedance studies. For both p ‐benzoquinone and potassium ferrocyanide, the peak currents are only slightly lower compared to bare electrode, but the background currents are considerably reduced. The polymer film is not acting as a mediator and is chemically stable, but it is electrochemically unstable outside the potential range of −700 to 800 mV (vs. SCE). Possible uses of this modified electrode in biosensors are discussed.
