1,8‐anthraquinono‐18‐crown‐6 and 10‐[(2,4‐dinitrophenyl)azo]‐9‐hydroxy‐1,8‐anthraceno‐18‐crown‐6 were prepared from 1, 8‐dichloroanthraquinone and used in the development of ion‐selective electrodes. The electrodes based on 10‐[(2,4‐dinitrophenyl)azo]‐9‐hydroxy‐1,8‐anthraceno‐18‐crown‐6 displayed better selectivity for potassium over sodium and had fewer interferences. The differences and similarities between the ionophores, as well as the optimum conditions for the preparation of the electrodes are discussed.
