The Cover Feature shows a new method for the determination of substituent size by “jumping through flaming hoop” method. The size of a brave tiger can be measured by the size of the hoop: a large tiger cannot pass through the hoop, though a small tiger jumps through the hoop. At the molecular level, the substituent size could be determined by using a macrocyclic ring as the “flaming hoop”. The size of a substituent was quantitatively measured by observing the activation energy for the shuttling process of a [2]rotaxane with pyrrole moiety incorporating a substituent.
