The selective preparation of α‐glycosides of GlcNAc has been accomplished using a direct copper(II) triflate catalyzed glycosylation between α‐ d ‐glucosamine pentaacetate, readily available from chitin, and a range of alcohol acceptors. The α‐selectivity results from a post‐glycosylation anomerization.
