The reaction of succinyl succinates with aniline, iodoaniline and iodobiphenylamine yielded 2,5‐bis(arylamino)terephthalates. Suzuki cross‐coupling reactions of the iodo‐functionalized compounds with phenyl‐ and biphenylylboronic acids gave 2,5‐diaminoterephthalates with N ‐biphenylyl, N ‐terphenylyl and N ‐quaterphenylyl substituents. Some of the products show interesting fluorescence behaviour. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2008)
