A variety of secondary alcohols, 1,2‐diols and primary alcohols were selectively oxidized in excellent yields to their corresponding ketones, 1,2‐diketones and aldehydes with aqueous 30 % hydrogen peroxide in refluxing acetonitrile in the presence of catalytic amounts of N ‐methylpyrrolidin‐2‐one hydrotribromide (MPHT).
