The reaction of gem ‐aryl‐disubstituted methylenecyclopropanes 1 with diaryl diselenide produced the corresponding ring‐opened products 1,2‐bis(arylselanyl)‐3,3‐diarylcyclobut‐1‐ene 4 in the presence of iodosobenzene diacetate in moderate‐to‐good yields under mild conditions. The further transformation of 4 in the presence of MCPBA has also been examined. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2005)
