The cover picture shows the Pd‐assisted assembly of a furo[2,3‐ b ]pyridone through the sequential one‐pot coupling of three readily available starting materials: a 4‐alkoxy‐3‐iodo‐2‐pyridone, a terminal alkyne, and an aryl iodide. In this process a single palladium catalyst intervenes in three different transformations acting alternatively as an organometallic reagent or as a Lewis acid. Other remarkable examples illustrating the outstanding potential of Pd‐catalysed processes for the development of multicomponent syntheses of heterocyclic compounds are discussed in the Microreview by G. Balme, E. Bossharth and N. Monteiro on p. 4101 ff.
