A new powerful synthesis of symmetrical (two‐step) or dissymmetrical (three‐step) macrotricyclic cyclen‐ or cyclam‐based ligands is reported. In this procedure, the starting materials are bis‐aminals derived from condensation of cyclen or cyclam with glyoxal.
