Functional monoesters of jojoba oil can be produced by enzymatic interesterification: Reaction analysis and structural characterization (pages 630–636 of this issue) Qiong Lei and Tianhu Li DOI: 10.1002/ejlt.201400458 Conversion of the rare long‐chain monounsaturated fatty acids/alcohols from jojoba oil to their corresponding ethyl esters (LMFAEE) and acetates (LMFAA), respectively, was realized in a one‐step interesterification catalysed by Novozym 435 with 97% yield. 1H NMR was used to determine the yield. The interesterified products can serve as functional ingredients in food additives, fragrances, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, lubricants, and insect pheromones. Additionally, the lipase exhibited excellent reusability and helped reduce the cost significantly, making jojoba oil more economically attractive for industrial application.
