The Cover Feature shows a glass reactor in which Orange II (ORII) is degraded by H 2 O 2 in a basic carbonate buffer solution catalyzed by Mn III (TPPS). Under these conditions the catalyst is rapidly oxidized to (TPPS)Mn V =O, which reacts with ORII and returns to Mn III (TPPS). Typical spectral changes during the degradation process (upper LH corner) and schematic concentration profiles for all species involved (upper RH corner) are presented. The pH dependence of the process (lower LH corner) is ascribed to the deprotonation of HCO 4 – and Mn III (TPPS)(H 2 O)(OH), respectively. The catalyst concentration dependence shows typical saturation kinetics (lower RH corner). More information can be found in the Full Paper by R. van Eldik et al.
