A coordination polymer of metal(II) phthalocyanine (Pc) with a pyridine‐containing bidentate ligand has been obtained for the first time as single crystals. It has the composition (Mn II Pc · 4,4′bpy) n · (4C 6 H 4 Cl 2 ) n ( 1 ) and contains manganese(II) phthalocyanine and 4,4′‐bipyridyl (4,4′‐bpy). Optical and magnetic properties of the polymer have been studied. The coordination of bpy to Mn II Pc produces new absorption bands in the NIR range, which can be attributed to Mn I Pc + and Mn III Pc – species. The Mn II atoms have an intermediate S = 3/2 spin state in 1 and show weak ferromagnetic coupling of spins.
