The preparation and characterisation of a hybrid biscyclometalated coumarin/iridium complex is presented which exhibits intense visible absorption ( ε ≈ 43800 dm 3 mol –1 cm –1 ) and sensitises both n‐ and p‐type dye‐sensitised solar cells (DSSCs).
