A method has been developed for the preparation of Bi–Fe–Sb–O pyrochlore nanoparticles by microwave hydrothermal treatment. Experiments revealed that the preparation procedure for the precursors is an important factor that affects the phase composition of the product. The morphology of the pyrochlore particles was investigated by SEM, HRTEM, and selected‐area electron diffraction (SAED) methods. The samples consist of numerous spherical agglomerates from 100 to 200 nm formed from 20 nm mutually oriented nanocrystallites. A mechanism for the formation of the particles is proposed, and the magnetic and photocatalytic properties of the Bi–Fe–Sb–O pyrochlore nanocrystallites are reported.
