The new nitridoborate nitride Mg 3 Ga(BN 2 )N 2 was prepared by multilateral solid‐state metathesis reaction from MgCl 2 , GaN, Li 3 N, and Li 3 BN 2 at high temperature. The crystal structure of Mg 3 Ga(BN 2 )N 2 was refined from X‐ray powder diffraction patterns isotypically to Mg 3 Al(BN 2 )N 2 with the space group R $\bar {3}$ m no.166 [ Z = 3, a = b = 3.4560(0) Å, c = 31.7924(2) Å]. The undoped and Eu 2+ ‐doped Mg 3 Ga(BN 2 )N 2 show orange‐red luminescence under UV excitation.
