The new water‐soluble palladium(II) complexes Na 2 { trans ‐[PdCl 2 (mTPPMS‐κ P ) 2 ]} ( 1 ), (CN 4 H 7 )Na{ trans ‐[PdCl 2 (mTPPMS‐κ P ) 2 ]} ( 2 ) and the 2D polymer trans ‐{Pd‐μ‐[mTPPMS‐1κ P :2κ O ‐Na 1/2 (H 2 O)]‐μ‐[mTPPMS‐1κ P :2κ O′ ‐Na′ 1/2 (H 2 O)]‐μ‐[8TTH‐1κ S :2κ O 6 – Na 1/2 (H 2 O)]‐μ‐[8TTH‐1κ S :2κ O 6‐Na′ 1/2 (H 2 O)]} n ( 3 ) {mTPPMS = Ph 2 P[3‐OS(O) 2 C 6 H 4 ] – ; 8‐TTH = 8‐thiotheophyllinate} have been synthesized and characterised by NMR and IR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. The crystal structures of 2 and 3 were determined by X‐ray diffraction. The binding properties of the new hydrosoluble palladium complexes towards DNA were studied by the mobility shift assay, which showed that complex 1 is more active than cisplatin towards DNA.
