The post‐synthesis grafting of fluoroalkyl groups has been performed to modulate the hydrophilic–hydrophobic balance of SBA‐15 type ordered mesoporous silica (OMS). The influence of the nature of the grafting agent and its structural and textural characteristics and the silanol content of the starting material on the hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of the grafted material was investigated. If the parent material possessed high silanol content after calcination, high grafting yields and low C BET parameters were obtained.
