A mixed‐valent [Mn 12 ] complex with an unprecedented [Mn III 4 Mn II 8 (μ‐OCH 3 ) 4 ] core was obtained by oxidation of MnCl 2 in the presence of salicylaldoxime (saoH 2 ). This complex adopts a rare topology based on a central [Mn II 4 ] cage decorated by four dinuclear [Mn II –Mn III ] motifs. Studies of the magnetic properties show the presence of strong intracomplex antiferromagnetic interactions and suggest an S T = 2 spin ground state.
