In the course of annealing Mn 3 O 4 and Pd/PdO nanocrystals co‐encapsulated within a nanosized silica sphere under a reducing environment, we observed that the reduction of Mn 3 O 4 into MnO was facilitated by the Pd/PdO nanocrystals. Successive annealing at high temperatures induced the MnO nanocrystals to react with the silica matrix, resulting in the formation of hollow nanostructures composed of a polycrystalline MnSiO 3 shell.
