A unique (guanidinato)samarium dichloride cluster [(Me 3 Si) 2 NC(NCy) 2 SmCl 2 ] 5 (thf) 2 was synthesized from anhydrous SmCl 3 and (Me 3 Si) 2 NC(NCy) 2 Li in thf/toluene solution. This cluster exhibits a novel structure containing a chlorine atom with four coordinated samarium atoms. The X‐ray crystal structure was investigated and compared with that of the heavier ytterbium congener [(Me 3 Si) 2 NC(NCy) 2 YbCl 2 ] 2 (LiCl) 2 (thf) 4 . (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
