A novel T4(1) water chain in a new Cu II coordination polymer, {[Cu(C 4 H 6 N 2 ) 2 (C 4 H 2 O 4 )] (H 2 O) 3 } n ( 1 , where C 4 H 6 N 2 = 2‐methylimidazole, C 4 H 2 O 4 = maleate), has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Thermogravimetry, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and magnetic analysis have also been used to characterize 1 . Complex 1 crystallizes in the trigonal space group P 3 2 21, and the 1‐D chains composed of cyclic water tetramers play an important role in stabilizing the overall polymeric structure. Furthermore, this 1‐D water chain presents an unusual association mode of water molecules.(© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2007)
