A new type of iridium(III) complex [ trans ‐Ir(ppy) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ] + ( 1 ) has been prepared by a novel synthetic method and its structural and photoluminescent characteristics have been compared with those of the cis analogue, [ cis ‐Ir(ppy) 2 (PPh 3 )(P(OPh) 3 )] + ( 2 ) which has also been newly prepared in this study.
