A novel supramolecular assembly [Hg 6 As 4 ](AgCl 3 ) 2 has been prepared and its structure determined. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group I 2/ a (no. 15), with the unit‐cell dimensions a = 14.690(1), b = 9.1851(7), c = 20.285(1) Å, β = 93.17(1)°, and Z = 4. The crystal structure comprises a three‐dimensional cationic host framework, [Hg 6 As 4 ] 4+ , built of mercury and arsenic atoms and one‐dimensional ∞ 1 (AgCl 3 ) 2− guest anions built of corner‐sharing [AgCl 4 ] tetrahedra. The title compound is the first example of a perfectly ordered supramolecular architecture having an infinite chain anion as a guest moiety embedded into a mercury−pnicogen cationic framework.
