The in situ hydrothermal reactions of UO 2 (NO 3 ) 2 with 1‐oxo‐4‐cyanopyridine (ocpy) and ethyl ( S )‐lactate (e‐la) afforded two unprecedented chiral 2D neutral luminescent square grids, uranyl‐bis(1‐oxo‐4‐pyridylcarboxylate) UO 2 (opyca) 2 ( 1 ) and homochiral uranyl‐bis[( S )‐lactate] ( 2 ). Their solid‐state structures, preliminary optical and photoluminescent properties are reported. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2003)
