[Cr(bzimpy) 2 ]Cl, where bzimpy is 2,6‐bis(benzimidazol‐2‐yl)pyridine, has been synthesized and characterized by ESI‐MS, UV/Visible, and fluorescence spectra. Absorption titration and thermal denaturation experiments indicate that the complex binds to DNA with moderate strength, while viscosity measurements show that it may undergo surface binding. The fluorescence intensity of the complex increases with increasing DNA concentration, in contrast to [Cr(phen) 3 ] 3+ and [Cr(bpy) 3 ] 3+ . The complex cleaves pBR322 DNA in the presence of H 2 O 2 . (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2003)
