Treatment of p ‐ tert ‐butylcalix[6]areneH 6 (H 6 L) or p ‐ tert ‐butylcalix[8]areneH 8 (H 8 L 1 ) with 2 equiv. of [WOCl 4 ] in refluxing toluene affords, after workup, the complexes [(WOCl 2 ) 2 LH 2 ] ( 1 ) and [{WO(NCMe)} 2 L 1 ] ( 2 ), respectively. The molecular structures of 1 and 2 have been determined and reveal conformationally constrained macrocyclic rings. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2003)
