In order to improve the reliability of electric power systems, it is important to reduce malfunctions of relays or faults of low‐voltage control circuits in substations due to switching and lightning surge. However, it is not sufficient to study the intrusion of surges into low‐voltage control circuits. We studied the terminal voltage of the control panel and analyzed the intrusion route of surges in substations. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
