Construction of a reasonable controller and automatic determination of the BIR for a boiler system in a thermal power plant are investigated based on the nonlinear separation control method by using actual data of the thermal power plant. Nonlinear separation control consists of nonlinear static compensation and linear dynamics compensation, applied independently. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical simulation studies. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
